Philip, elected to the Committee as the Criminal Law and Liaison representative in 2009, brings with him a wealth of experience in all publically funded areas. His particular speciality is criminal law having over 15 years’ experience in that particular area. He has been a duty solicitor since 1999 and a Higher Court Advocate since 2004 and has over the years played an active part in assisting his predecessors on the Leeds Law Society committee in making representations to various consultations which have affected criminal legal aid.
Philip continues to represent our members on various committees including the Crown Court Users Committee and regularly consults with the Crown Prosecution Service and West Yorkshire Police to ensure defence practitioners views are heard. He continues to respond to various consultations on behalf of the society at a particularly difficult time for legal aid practitioners with proposed government spending cuts planned.
