Invitation To Become A Part-Time Cambridge University Law Tutor.(14/07/08)
James O’Connell from the Institute of Paralegals has asked Leeds Law Society to make members aware of this invitation to become a Part-Time Cambridge University Law Tutor.
In October the University of Cambridge will be launching two mostly online, practice-orientated, courses designed especially for law firm paralegals and business/legal support staff. Both courses lead to a Certificate in Law from the University of Cambridge.
Because we and Cambridge intend to make the courses as relevant as possible to your members' employees, we want to invite your membership to consider whether any want to become a part-time law tutor with the University of Cambridge.
The work entails creation of a given module, followed by the provision of occasional out-of-office-hours tutor support to students by telephone or e-mail. The work is paid and (provided your members don't work too late every night) is flexible enough that it can fit in with most existing work commitments. They will also help with assessments. Cambridge appreciates that your members are (probably) not academic, and so it has a team ready to work closely with them and offer guidance and help along the way.

We have listed below the modules for which Cambridge is seeking tutors. Since all the modules on both courses are intended to have a practical flavour, then solicitors or paralegals with practice experience may be most suitable. However knowing what exceptional and unusal expertise and experience there amongst local law society memberships, we do not want to prejudge anyone's suitability!
We would be very grateful if your members could, as a matter of some urgency contact Lydia Romero at Cambridge direct if they are interested. Not all modules will be offered immediately, so if members are interested but currently unavailable, they should still speak to Lydia.

For full details of the courses/qualifications please visit:
http://www.cont-ed.cam.ac.uk/profstudies/legalstudies/ for the legal studies certificate (slightly more academic, but still with a practical focus); and
http://www.cont-ed.cam.ac.uk/profstudies/paralegals/ for the fully practice-orientated course .
We are very excited to be partnering Cambridge and about this opportunity to give paralegals and business/legal support staff access to a world-class university. However, as the courses are practice-orientated those writing the modules need to be able to explain what clients expect just as much as they need to know essential academic points - hence this invitation.
Thank you for your time.
