For over five years Leeds Legal, in partnership with Leeds Ahead, has been facilitating representatives from a wide range of Leeds law firms to volunteer in schools in some of the most deprived areas of the city.
The primary aim of Education and Enterprise week is to help raise the aspirations of the children and develop their future career ambitions.
Under the theme of ‘World at Work’, a range of professionals from lawyers to marketing managers have been able to challenge the children to consider their future careers and how they can work to achieve their goals by hearing firsthand accounts of what it is like working in a law firm.
The region’s largest annual volunteering initiative for the legal sector has now seen over 800 volunteers help develop the future career aspirations of over 4,000 children across Leeds by giving over 5,500 hours of their own time.
In 2010, Leeds Legal won the prestigous Volunteer Corporate Group award at the Leeds Volunteering Awards for its Education and Enterprise Week initiative. The winning submission demonstrated an opportunity for volunteers within the legal sector to give something back to the community and get involved in a unique event that has a positive impact on the future generation.
Education and Enterprise Week takes place in October every year, if you or your firm are interested in getting involved please contact Sally Wright at Leeds Ahead on 0113 246 7877 or via email to sally.wright@leedsahead.org.uk.
