Deborah Green, the regional manager of the Law Society of England & Wales, was named Yorkshire Lawyer of the Year in recognition of the range of services provided to solicitors at every level throughout the Yorkshire region.
The accolade followed an earlier Award for Enterprise, primarily for spearheading the Leeds Legal initiative, which is already achieving many of its international aims after a series of business briefings in Düsseldorf and Brussels.
Sponsors of Leeds Legal were also honoured at the annual awards, which was attended by 300 of Yorkshire’s legal profession. Nigel McClea, managing partner of Pinsent Masons, Leeds, accepted the Law Firm Award (31+ partners) and Neil Mclean, managing partner of DLA Piper, Leeds was recognised with the Real Estate Award, whilst the company received two further awards in the areas of Corporate Finance and Dispute Resolution.
It was an extremely successful evening for Leeds Legal with six of the ten awards going to founders and advocates of the initiative. The awards were judged by a distinguished panel including, Jeremy Shulman, partner at Shulmans and chair of the judging panel, Rosemary Edwards, president of the Leeds Law Society, Peter McCormick OBE, Matthew Wrigley and Jonathan Procter.

The Yorkshire Lawyer Awards, hosted by ITV’s Gaynor Barnes, is organised by founders Barker Brooks Media Ltd, the Yorkshire-based publishing and event management specialists. The annual event, raised around £6,000 for local charity, the Macmillan Dales Unit.
