Legal eagles fly high at the national Law Society awards (26th October)

Leeds Legal has picked up a major accolade at the national Law Society’s inaugural Excellence Awards for their efforts in driving forward innovation in the legal sector.

The national Innovation in Business award was presented to Leeds Legal for its ongoing successes in forging new legal links and attracting international business to the city. The campaign beat off competition from five other shortlisted law firms and legal organisations from across the UK at the Honourable Artillery Company in London yesterday (Thursday 25 October), hosted by BBC Broadcaster Jeremy Vine.

Over the last 18 months, the unique campaign - the first of its kind in the UK - has successfully positioned Leeds as a world-class city, with a world-class legal profession. Through a series of international delegations visits to Europe and Asia, and a high profile media campaign, Leeds Legal has showcased the breadth of legal talent in Leeds and the quality of the city’s law firms.

Alan M Baker, chairman of Leeds Legal commented: “This award is testament to our dedication to raising the profile of the genuine collective wealth of legal talent in Leeds.

“To have achieved such a national and international profile for Leeds Legal in less than two years, not only justifies the hard work involved but also demonstrates the necessity of this type of unique legal campaign. This award also recognises the pioneering aspects of the initiative.”

The National Law Society launched the Excellence Awards to reward outstanding achievement in the legal profession. Other awards presented include: quality of life, equality and diversity, social

responsibility, practice standards, solicitor of the year and new solicitor of the year.
