Today (Friday 27 July), the Lord Mayor of the City of London, John Stuttard met with Leeds Legal, Leeds Financial Services Initiative (LFSI) and UK Trade & Investment for Yorkshire and the Humber (UKTI).
As part of his two-day visit to Yorkshire, the Lord Mayor - who represents the entire UK-based financial services industry - received an update briefing on the Leeds Legal campaign, at a lunch hosted by one of the organisation’s key supporters, Gordons LLP.
Since Leeds Legal’s launch last spring, the campaign has run several inward and outward legal and business international delegation visits, most recently in May to Milan.
During the lunchtime reception, held at Gordons’ Riverside West offices, the Lord Mayor praised the successes of the Leeds Legal campaign, emphasising how it demonstrates Leeds strengthening its position as the largest legal and financial centre out of the capital.
Rosemary Edwards, Director of Leeds Legal said:
”We were delighted to meet with the Lord Mayor. His positive comments about the success of our campaign were very encouraging. Although Leeds Legal is a unique concept for the legal profession, we are confident that the campaign is building the profile of Leeds as an international business destination, for all professional services.”
Together with Leeds Legal, UKTI, the campaign’s main sponsor, took the opportunity to launch a new guide to helping businesses around the region promote their services abroad. Selling Services Overseas is designed to help the region’s service companies who would like to start trading and selling their services abroad find out information about how best to do it.
Mark Robson, International Trade Director for UKTI Yorkshire and the Humber said:
“Discussing the new guide with the Lord Mayor was extremely helpful. He was enthusiastic about how we are helping companies of all sizes to fulfil their potential and to start trading overseas. We are fully engaged in supporting the Leeds Legal initiative, and this is the perfect way to complement their activities, encouraging legal firms to develop their businesses and services outside the UK.”
Alongside the Leeds Legal lunch, the Lord Mayor also visited and met with LFSI, the University of Leeds Business School, Leeds Met University, the Bank of England, PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Marketing Leeds.
