Lord Neuberger is in the city to deliver a lecture to a specially invited audience of senior judges, magistrates, barristers and solicitors, from across West Yorkshire, followed by a drinks reception.
The Master of the Rolls was invited to deliver his lecture on ‘Justice in the internet age’ by Tony Grant, the current High Sheriff of West Yorkshire, and will deliver it at the University of Leeds on Thursday evening.
The Master of The Rolls is the second most senior judge in England and Wales and sits beneath only the Lord Chief Justice in terms of seniority. His visit is being seen as a demonstration of the high standing in which the region’s legal community is held and law faculty at the University.
Tony Grant, the High Sheriff of West Yorkshire, said: “The visit of Lord Neuberger is a great honour for West Yorkshire and will further strengthen the region’s reputation as a centre of legal excellence. We are delighted he accepted the invitation and we very much look forwards to his lecture.”
Alan M. Baker, Chairman of Leeds Legal, added: “This visit reinforces the strength that exists within the Leeds Legal community. Leeds is very much the UK’s second city when it comes to Legal expertise.
“This lecture is just the latest in series of high profile visits to the city and the presidents of both the Leeds and Bradford Law Societies will be in attendance. Its significance to the city and wider Leeds City Region should not be underestimated.”
